Our Foundation has been extremely busy since the puck dropped to start the 2018-2019 Hamilton Bulldogs Season. From fundraising to community involvement, we continue to strive towards the betterment of our community. Outlined below is an update on everything we've been up to over the past couple of months.
For starters, yesterday we hosted one of our annual School Day games at the FirstOntario Centre. This year we were fortunate enough to partner with Telling Tales and the HWDSB to host over 8,500 students from all over the public board, including many from some of our 23 Adopt-a-Schools that the foundation supports.
Telling Tales featured the book Mucus Mayhem from the extremely popular 'Almost Epic Squad' series written by Kevin Sylvester. We were also fortunate enough to have Kevin in attendance at the game with us. Other than the score, it was a great day at the rink for everyone involved. We look forward to hosting the Catholic school board in the new year!
At our last game, Bill O'Callaghan of O'Callaghan Contracting was in attendance to present a donation to our Foundation. They were generous enough to choose our foundation as a beneficiary of their company's charity golf tournament this past year.
Pictured above is Bill, along with his son Dylan and daughter Kelsey, as well as team owner and Foundation Chairman, Michael Andlauer. The generous donation totalled $14,036.55!
In early October, our Bulldogs presented Girls Hockey Day! During our game we were lucky enough to have hundreds of girls minor hockey players from throughout the city join us for an exciting afternoon.
In attendance for the game were three Canadian Women's Hockey League stars and members of Canada's National Team. Sarah Nurse, Renata Fast and Natalie Spooner were putting smiles on the future girls hockey stars in attendance all night by signing autographs and interacting with them.
Nearing the end of October, the Tim Horton's location at Barton and Ottawa hosted a few of our players for their trading card party. It was an awesome way for fans to interact with the community and put smiles on many peoples faces. Thank you to Tim Horton's for having us, and for everyone who came out that night.
A few days later on October 28th, the Waterdown Fortino's hosted Bulldogs players Jake Murray and Owen Burnell. It was a unique experience to greet customers, as well as getting the opportunity to meet with and thank some of our local veterans for their service.
Also, our Foundation would like to give a long overdue welcome to our two newest board members, Joanne Battaglia and Louis Frapporti. Joanne is currently the Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Community Partnerships at FirstOntario Credit Union and Louis is a Managing Partner of the Hamilton division of Gowling WLG. Both join the board with tremendous credentials and years of community involvement between them. We could not be happier to have both of them apart of our Foundation.
Lastly, don't forget to visit our Foundation booth located on the concourse during all Bulldogs home games. The booth is filled with game worn and signed memorabilia with all proceeds going right back into the foundation. If you can't make it out to one of our games but would still like to support our Breakfast Program and other initiatives, click the 'Donate' button on the top right of your screen.
Thank you to everyone who was involved with making it a successful couple of months for our Foundation, and we look forward to many more awesome events heading into Christmas and the new year!
